In Remembrance

It was the battle that wore her down
Even as the war marches on
But now she sits where she can rest
While others stand to face the test

A battle that she could never win
Though she tried and tried and tried again
And in the end she claimed defeat
The white flag flutters to her feet

It's a battle we'd never choose
A war some win but many lose
It doesn't pick who's weak or strong
Who has wealth or who just gets along

Battles such as this may remain
Even as the war gains its fame
Behind this ribbon are those lives
That alas, cancer has compromised

And though it silently stole away my Mum
Her pain is over and her healing has already begun
